Flora/Fauna ID

The dry deciduous forests of the central Indian dry lands are home to unique vegetation. Conditioned to harsh climatic conditions especially during the summer season when the temperature touches 50° Celsius, the vegetation flourishes in the rainy season. The diverse vegetation also attracts a wide range of wildlife and birds which directly or indirectly depend on the vegetation for its survival. Some of the floral species are also of social and cultural significance as it provides them with livelihood. Local communities extract natural products for local use and also to sell in the market. The region provides a live example of traditional mechanisms/institutions of co-existence between nature and humans which still prevail among the local communities.
